the seventh modal analysis release comes from athenian producer and dj, anfs. following his remix for kondaktors signal 1, anfs returns to the label with his debut release, ground, a four track ep which consists of original material. borrowing sounds from early twentieth century folk greek culture, the ep is dominated by a rhythmic canibalistic spirit and a noisy distorted cue. ground 1 functions as an introduction, or rather ones initiation to the mystic rituals that prevail. the artist uses drones and distorted textures which increase in ground 2 and are backed up by drums that beat in a hard-and-slow ethnic tonality. ground 3 reveals a paroxysm of emotions which comes as a result from the combination of basslines and vocals that create a complex and twisted vortex. the trip ends with ground 4, a more stripped down monotonic ensemble that serves as an epilogue and a catharsis.

savage grounds are cco and daniele cosmo, co-owner of lux rec. a techno related outfit to explore a darker, noisier and more menacing sound. the ep has been realised by using only three machines. a roland 808, a modular synthesizer and a roland space echo. every track has been recorded live with a minimum of post processing. come over the fence and dance with the savages.

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.
